Big Banks to Testify before House Panel Today
Executives from seven of the world's largest banks are set to testify before the House Financial Services Committee today as it discusses ways to hold big banks accountable. NAFCU continues to advocate for a modernized Glass-Steagall Act in order to protect consumers from banks that are too big to fail.

Today's hearing is set to begin at 9 a.m. Eastern; NAFCU will monitor.

NAFCU for years has worked to set the record straight on the differences between credit unions and banks. As not-for-profit, member-owned cooperatives, credit unions focus on member service rather than stockholder enrichment.

Last year, the association released a white paper calling on Congress to consider creating a 21st Century Glass-Steagall Act and also outlining reforms that would allow credit unions and other financial institutions to compete without putting consumers at risk.
