This Week: Congress returns, Comments due on Regulatory Proposals
Congress returns to Capitol after two weeks on recess. It’s expected they will work on the partial government shutdown and funding for the Department of Homeland Security, the White House’s FY2027 budget request, and other issues this week.

Lawmakers will review the budget request in a House hearing on Wednesday and in the Senate on Thursday America’s Credit Unions will engage with lawmakers, advocating for positive credit union proposals and against any cuts that would harm credit unions and the 146 million members they serve nationwide.

There is potential for these Congressional efforts to lead to work on a budget resolution and renewed focus on a reconciliation bill. America’s Credit Unions remains vigilant and is keeping member credit unions, the League System, and industry advocates updated on the possibility of a reconciliation bill and aligned on strategy.

Also happening this week:

• Today, comments are due to the NCUA in response to the fifth round of its Deregulation Project and its GENIUS Act proposal;

• Thursday, the House Financial Services Committee will hold a hearing on access to credit;

• Thursday, the CDFI Fund hosts its monthly webinar on certification; and

• Friday, comments are due to the CFPB in response to its draft strategic plan for FY2026-2030.
