Credit Union supporters win in Primaries across 6 States
Tuesday’s primaries across six states saw nearly every credit union-backed candidate prevail. Forty of 41 America’s Credit Unions PAC-backed candidates on the ballot in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Idaho, Oregon, and Pennsylvania won or advanced to a special or runoff election.

Long-time credit union supporter Rep. Andy Barr, R-Ky., won the state’s Republican Senate primary and will face Charles Booker in the general election. Barr chairs the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and has supported numerous credit union priorities, including CFPB reform, data privacy, and fraud solutions.

Barr’s win was one of five total victories for credit union champions vying for open seats, and all five candidates have a history of engagement and support for credit unions in their state.

These include:

• Alabama 1st Congressional District: State Rep. Rhett Marques was on the ballot Tuesday but due to recent redistricting changes will compete in an Aug. 11 special election. America's Credit Unions is partnering with The League of Credit Unions in a member communication campaign targeting credit union members with digital ads supporting Marques;

• Georgia 10th Congressional District: State Rep. Houston Gaines advances to the general election after winning 67% of the primary vote in a three-person field;

• Georgia 11th Congressional District: Rob Adkerson, former chief of staff to Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., advanced to the June 16 runoff election. He is running for the seat left open with Loudermilk’s retirement.

In addition, credit union supporter and former state Sen. Ralph Alvarado won the Republican primary with 56.5% of the vote against two other challengers. Alvarado is seeking the seat left open by Barr in the November election.

America’s Credit Unions sent a pollical update email with details on the results to members. The Credit Union Election Hub includes this week’s results and updates will continue through all remaining primaries and the Nov. 3 general election.
