Senate confirms Crews to serve on NCUA Board
The Senate confirmed John Crews Friday for the NCUA board. He will replace outgoing Chairman Kyle Hauptman for a term on the board ending Aug. 2, 2031. After Crews is sworn in, President Donald Trump is expected to name him the agency’s 14th chairman.

“America’s Credit Unions congratulates John Crews on his confirmation to the National Credit Union Administration. An effective credit union regulator must be properly equipped to oversee the industry, while providing credit unions access to the tools to take on today’s modern financial landscape,” said America’s Credit Unions President/CEO Scott Simpson. “Throughout his career, Crews has shown a measured and thoughtful approach to innovation, stability, and expanding access to affordable financial services. His experience will be an asset to the agency. We look forward to working with Crews to advance modern regulatory framework, and we encourage President Trump to proceed with nominations to fill the three-person NCUA Board.”

Crews, previously Treasury deputy assistant secretary for financial institutions policy, has met with America’s Credit Unions, Leagues, and credit unions several times while at Treasury to discuss the unique nature of credit unions, the need for regulatory modernization, and more.

In a letter to the Senate Banking Committee, America’s Credit Unions shared support of Crews’ nomination and swift confirmation. Its advocacy team also met with each committee member’s office to discuss the nomination and issues related to the NCUA.

America’s Credit Unions will continue to engage with the administration and Congress on additional nominations to ensure a full, three-person board leading the NCUA.

Also confirmed as part of the nominations package were Francis Brooke Jr. as deputy Treasury secretary, Erin Browne as Treasury undersecretary for international affairs, and S.P. Kothari and G. Hunter McMaster II as assistant secretaries of the Treasury.

Following the vote and prior to recessing for August:

• The Senate cleared a continuing resolution funding the federal government through Dec. 11. The resolution also blocks an America’s Credit Unions-opposed proposed change to the federal grants system;

• The chamber also cleared an amended version of the Common Cents Act and sent it back to the House; and

• Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) filed cloture on the CLARITY Act, allowing it to be called up in September if an agreement is reached over the recess.
