Credit Union Priorities central to August meetings with Policymakers
Congressional recess provided opportunities for America’s Credit Unions, Leagues, and credit unions to engage with members of Congress back home, and many met with key legislators in recent weeks.

Last week in Virginia, America’s Credit Unions and The League of Credit Unions, Apple Federal Credit Union, InFirst Federal Credit Union, and Topside Federal Credit Unions met with Rep. Eugene Vindman (D-VA) at Topside’s Fredericksburg headquarters. The group discussed programs credit unions are offering in the district to help bring service and affordability, as well as advocacy priorities such as fraud, interchange, and additional investment authorities.

Alabama credit unions and The League recently met with House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mike Rogers (R-AL) in Calhoun County. Leaders from Fort McClellan Credit Union, Coosa Pines Federal Credit Union, Heritage South Credit Union, AOD Federal Credit Union, Family Savings Credit Union, Navy Federal Credit Union, and AmFirst joined the conversation and shared their perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing credit unions.

The Texas Credit Union Association, a division of the Cornerstone League, coordinated several visits across Texas with member credit unions and policymakers:

In Tyler, Red River Credit Union and TEXAR Federal Credit Union joined a tour of the Federal Crimes Intelligence Center, with Rep. Nathaniel Moran (R-TX), who learned about the fraud the credit unions’ members face every day, including elder fraud schemes that hit older neighbors the hardest.

Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union hosted Jon Bonck, a candidate for the 38th Congressional District, for a meeting in Houston. Along with Shell Federal Credit Union, First Service Credit Union, and League staff, the group shared how credit unions invest in communities.

Several credit unions in eastern North Carolina joined with the Carolinas Credit Union League to meet with strong credit union supporter Rep. Don Davis (D-NC). They discussed issues affecting the credit union industry and the communities credit unions serve. A recent America’s Credit Unions ad campaign highlighted Rep. Davis’ focus on affordable lending.

The Illinois Credit Union League met locally at Partnership Financial Credit Union with Daniel Bliss, mayor of Evanston and a former state senator, last week. Bliss is running for Congress in the state’s 9th Congressional District.

August recess continues for senators this week, while House members head back to Capitol Hill.
