| Applications open for America’s Credit Unions committees |
|
Credit union voices are key to informing America’s Credit Unions’ strategies, and committees play a large role in providing that input from leaders across the country. The America’s Credit Unions Board of Directors last week approved a restructuring and framework revision affecting some of America’s Credit Unions committees, including:
• Volunteer Leadership Committee: This is a forum for credit union volunteers and leaders to share perspectives, identify emerging needs, and help strengthen volunteer leadership across the movement. The charter and structure of the committee is not changing, but members will be selected through this year’s application process for a two-year term.
• Small Credit Union Committee: The committee is designed to bring together leaders who understand opportunities and challenges facing small credit unions, elevating those perspectives across America’s Credit Unions and developing practical resources that help small credit unions succeed. The charter and structure of the committee is not changing, but members will be selected through this year’s application process for a two-year term.
• Advocacy Strategy Committee: This new committee is the primary forum for credit union advocacy leaders and executives to help establish and prioritize America’s Credit Unions’ advocacy agenda and advise on the strategies and tactics needed to advance it. It will be comprised of 56 members, representing natural person credit unions and Leagues.
In addition, there are five new policy committees starting in 2027 that will provide needed information, guidance, and input to the overarching Advocacy Strategy Committee. Comprised of 30-50 people each, those advocacy-supporting policy committees include:
• Payments, Innovation & Fraud Policy Committee;
• Lending Policy Committee;
• Examination & Supervision Policy Committee;
• Compliance, Legal & Risk Policy Committee; and
• Grassroots Committee.
Committee members will be determined through an application process, rather than nominations. The application window for these committees opened Sept. 22 and closes Oct. 20. America’s Credit Unions members are encouraged to apply for committees of interest to them. Notifications to individuals selected for the committees will be distributed before the end of the year.
America’s Credit Unions also engages members through additional committees, including the National Advocacy Fund Steering Committee and the National Credit Union Roundtable Advisory Committee. Given the unique nature and purpose of these groups, participation is structured through a separate process and not impacted by the recent changes.
