| Hill visits emphasize Credit Union service to Communities |
|
As House members have returned home and the Senate likely to follow this week, Capitol Hill meetings between credit union advocates and policymakers resonated. The meetings provided momentum for key credit union issues heading into recess and the final months of this Congress.
With nearly 500 advocates in town for Congressional Caucus 2026 and Hill visits with state Leagues, credit unions shared why their priorities would help members and communities improve their financial lives.
Meetings included:
• Cornerstone League and member credit unions met with NCUA Chairman John Crews, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), and others while in town; and
• Minnesota Credit Union Network met with members of their delegation including Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D) and Tina Smith (D), and Reps. Betty McCollum (D) and Brad Finstad (R) to advance credit union year-end priorities;
• Carolinas Credit Union League and North and South Carolina credit union leaders connected with both states’ Congressional delegations in meetings with members of Congress or their staff;
• GoWest Credit Union Association and more than 35 credit union advocates met with legislators and regulators;
• Wisconsin Credit Union League and more than two dozen credit union leaders met with multiple members of the state’s Congressional delegation;
• Tennessee Credit Union League and credit union leaders advocated for key priorities, including check fraud, loan maturity limits, and reporting thresholds.
• Luminate Louisiana Credit Unions and Louisiana credit union leaders took part in Capitol Hill visits, including Speaker Mike Johnson (R) and Rep. Cleo Fields (D)
