| Advocacy leaders meet with NCUA Chairman Crews |
|
The first official meeting between NCUA Chairman John Crews and America’s Credit Unions leaders Tuesday largely focused on agency actions the NCUA can take to provide regulatory relief for credit unions. President/CEO Scott Simpson, Chief Advocacy Officer Kathleen Coulombe, Senior Vice President of Advocacy Greg Mesack, Head of Regulatory Advocacy James Akin, and Regulatory Advocacy Senior Counsel Luke Martone met at the agency’s headquarters with Crews.
Issues discussed include:
• Capital reform and regulatory capital parity, including the complex credit union capital leverage ratio (CCULR) and broader opportunities to modernize the NCUA’s capital framework;
• Risk-focused examinations and CAMELS reform, including continued movement toward supervision focused on material financial risk;
• The NCUA’s Deregulation Project and additional opportunities for regulatory and agency modernization; and
• Field of membership, chartering, and other opportunities to modernize the federal credit union regulatory framework.
Crews made his first public remarks as NCUA chair at last month’s Congressional Caucus, touching on many of these same topics. He emphasized that the Deregulation Project will continue under his tenure.
America’s Credit Unions remains engaged with NCUA on finalizing current proposals and continuing regulatory relief.
