| Financial Literacy Program taps into Student ambitions |
|
At Francis D. Raub Middle School in Allentown, Pennsylvania, one hundred percent of its students are classified as economically disadvantaged. A financial literacy program at the school led by First Commonwealth Credit Union focuses on providing students with vital, youth-focused information. A new documentary features the credit union’s on-the-ground effort to directly help younger community members in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley.
The after-school student outreach launched in 2021 as a pilot program. It brought such immediate success that leaders turned it into classroom programs and financial reality fairs, where students learn about paychecks, saving, budgeting, and more at an age where it’s critical to learn those skills. More than just numbers, First Commonwealth is able to listen to students’ ambitions and help them investigate ways to make those goals a reality.
