| FHA Proposal would have a Positive Impact on Housing Affordability |
|
If finalized, proposed modernizations to the Federal Housing Administration’s (FHA) minimum property requirements would provide meaningful updates and a positive impact. This support was outlined in a letter sent to the FHA by America’s Credit Unions and a coalition of financial trade organizations.
The proposed policy updates would align FHA property evaluation policies with those of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, effectively reducing operational, staffing, and compliance costs for lenders and appraisers. “This change would significantly reduce the regulatory burden of the FHA program, expanding access for creditworthy borrowers to safe housing with affordable financing,” wrote the group.
Access a full breakdown of the proposed changes via an America’s Credit Unions Regulatory Comment alert. Comments to the FHA are due Friday.
